Dining
Perth’s dining culture is a vibrant mix of global influences and local flavours, reflecting the city’s multicultural population and proximity to fresh, regional produce. The city’s food scene ranges from trendy, high-end restaurants to casual eateries, offering a variety of cuisines like Italian, Asian fusion, Mediterranean, and modern Australian. The coastal location also means an abundance of fresh seafood, which plays a big part in many menus, with popular dishes featuring local catches such as Western Rock Lobster and Barramundi. Dining along the Swan River or by the beach in places like Cottesloe and Scarborough enhances the experience with stunning views.
In addition to formal dining, Perth embraces a laid-back café culture, with many coffee shops offering locally roasted beans and artisan pastries. Food markets, such as the Fremantle Markets and Twilight Hawkers Market, offer a more casual experience, where you can explore street food from around the world. Outdoor dining is popular thanks to the city’s sunny climate, with many restaurants and cafes featuring alfresco options. Whether you’re enjoying a fine dining experience in the heart of the city or grabbing a bite from a local food truck, Perth’s dining culture is all about fresh ingredients, diverse flavors, and relaxed, scenic environments.
Electricity
Electrical current is 240/250V, AC 50Hz. The Australian three-pin power outlet is different from that in many countries, so you will need an adaptor. If your appliances are 110V, check if there is a 110/240V switch. If not, you will need a voltage converter. Universal outlets for 240V or 110V shavers are usually found in leading hotels.
Goods and Services Tax / Tourist Refund Scheme
The Goods and Services Tax (GST) is a 10% tax applied to most items in Australia.
The Tourist Refund Scheme (TRS) enables travelers departing Australia to claim a refund for the GST and Wine Equalisation Tax (WET) paid on goods purchased in Australia. For detailed information on the TRS, please refer to the website of the Australian Border Force.
